Indian Rock Art of the Columbia Plateau
Published in Hardcover by University of Washington Press (October, 1992)
Average review score:

An Excellent Introduction To Rock ArtThis book provides a wonderful overview of petroglyphs and pictographs in general, with the emphasis on the Northwestern states (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Western Montana) and British Columbia. There are images on nearly every page including black and white photos and drawing recreations. Many elements of rock art are described and defined. There is a time line illustrating eras from pit and groove to modern, and a brief description of what Native American Indians were doing during that time. There are also some quantitative charts of elements. This is a great book for anyone interested in Native Americans, Archaeology, Rock Art, or a great way to get interested.

Inside Classic Rock Tracks: Songwriting and Recording Secrets of 100+ Great Songs
Published in Paperback by Backbeat Books (09 September, 2001)
Average review score:

Humorous and InsightfulRooksby does a great job of analyzing notable songs from the last few decades and explains what makes them effective. Some of his observations are funny too. I recommend this for anyone who is interested in songwriting and production, but is bored with the usual "How to Write Massively, Successful Hit Songs in 27 Easy Steps" format.

The International Encyclopedia of Hard Rock & Heavy Metal
Published in Hardcover by Facts on File, Inc. (March, 1985)
Average review score:

This is an incredible reference guide. This reference book is one of the most in-depth works on heavy metal music that I have ever found. The entries for major bands are accurate and interesting, but the real value lies in the entries for lesser-known and regional bands. This book is a must-have for anyone interested in hard rock or heavy metal.

Interpretation of Igneous Rocks
Published in Paperback by Chapman & Hall (October, 1979)
Average review score:

The interpretation of igneous rocksThis title it's an outstanding book showing how data from petrogenetic, geochemical and fiel studies can be used to formulate and test petrogenetic hypotheses. This book covers such subjects related to igneous petrology as the concept of fractionation, chemical variation diagrams, phase diagrams, the experimental petrology of natural rocks, trace-element and isotope geochemestry, and petrography, all in relation with its methodology. The appendices cover rock nommenclature, major element composition and CIPW norms of important igneous rock types, norm calculations, and some representative mineral analyses. This title is full with diagrams and photographic illustrations that are an accompany to the text and are well integrated with it. This book brought a good help in the study of igneous petrology, and should be of serious interest to all students, tachers and researchers needing to understand this subject beyond an introductory level.

Investigations: Rocks & Minerals (Investigations)
Published in Hardcover by Lorenz Books (05 May, 2000)
Average review score:

Super Book on Rocks and MineralsThis book is an excellent resource for teaching children the fundamental principles governing rocks and minerals. Topics are clearly and simply explained with superb photographs. Some topics included are: crystal shapes; igneous rocks; moving plates; identifying minerals; erosion; what soil is made of; making fossils; rocks in space. The book also contains a number of terrific and fun experiments that are well thought out and easy to duplicate. These experiments give children excellent hands-on understanding of the growth and properties of rocks and minerals. The materials needed for the experiments are readily available. Some of the experiments include: testing for hardness; making a goniometer; making glass and bubbles; making conglomerate rocks.
I highly recommend this book to parents who are homeschooling their children as well as to parents who wish to offer more information to schoolchildren who are interested in this subject.

Isolated Carbonate Bodies Composed of Stacked Debris-Flow Deposits on a Fine-Grained Carbonate Lower Slope of Devonian Age, Antelope Peak, Elko
Published in Paperback by U.S. Geological Survey (February, 1994)
Average review score:

Breathtaking! An epic thriller of unmatched profundity! The debris-slope has never been so slippery, the carbonate never so fine grained! While Sheehan more than "deposits" his prose, we would be truly remiss to ignore the writing contributions of the eclecticly-minded "et al," who makes us question our very basic assumptions about the Devonian Age, especially undermining our generally held beilef about the so-called "Antelope Peak." After reading this work you'll be looking forward to enjoying the best days of the antelope, disabused of your notions that the antelopes better days had passed.
As for the climactic ending, I won't spoil the surprise, suffice it to say that Isolated Carbonated Bodies do not stay isolated forvever, especially those composed of stacked debris-flow!

It's Time to Rock the Boat
Published in Paperback by Destiny Image (January, 1993)
Average review score:

It's time to rock the boatThis book is definitely not your run-of-the-mill book on witnessing and preaching the gospel. But Michael Brown's teaching is so biblical. I read it with my Bible to check it's accuracy. I was amazed. Although preaching a "confrontational gospel" is widely condemned. I found it is very biblical. Michael Brown shows why a confrontational gospel is needed and gives inspiring scripture references; without taking scripture out of context. Michael Brown has an excellent way of putting things. Many things I felt, but couldn't convey, he did. A great book. I'd recommend it to anyone who is opposed to confontational preaching, just to see the other side. Maybe you'll see some thing you like.
